Ozarks Dharma Community is pleased to announce a weekend of meditation with noted Insight Meditation teacher, Phil Jones. Phil will give a public talk on Saturday, May 17 and lead a daylong retreat on Sunday, May 18.

“Mindfulness, What Is It Good For?” will be presented May 17, 2014, at 7pm in the Story Hour Room at The Library Center, 4653 S Campbell Ave, Springfield, MO 65810. The talk is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.

Daylong Meditation Retreat, Sunday May 18, 2014 from 9am-4pm


A daylong retreat, “Settling the Mind, Opening the Heart,” will focus on settling the mind and creating the conditions for insights to arise, while also opening the heart. Phil will offer instruction in sitting, walking, eating and goodwill (metta) meditation. This retreat will be appropriate for all skill levels from beginners to more experienced meditators. 

The retreat will take place from 9am–4pm May 18, 2014, at Little Portion Retreat Center in Republic, MO (map). The retreat includes a vegetarian lunch and costs $45 on or before May 1 and $50 after that date. A limited number of scholarships are available for those who need assistance. Please see the registration form for further details.

About Phil Jones

Philip Jones has practiced meditation since 1987 and has been teaching Insight Meditation since 1996. He has studied with teachers from Spirit Rock and the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) and graduated from the first Community Dharma Leader program in 2000. He also studied for a number of years with Matthew Flickstein and more recently with teachers from IMS and with Shaila Catherine. He has served on the board of directors of Mid America Dharma, the regional retreat organization, since the mid- ’90s. His talks and writing can be found at silentmindopenheart.org.
